Mānuka is a hardy and shrubby species for using as a primary coloniser. It prefers damp sites rather than very dry sites, and produces white flowers preferred by bees. It is frost hardy and prefers open sunny positions. Use for wetlands and riparian plantings. Grows up to 3-4m high in Hawke’s Bay.
