Ralph’s karo is the best shelter tree in Hawke’s Bay: it is tough and can cope with winds and dry. It doesn’t get too big at 4-5m, and it is well branched. It likes full sun and is good for bees. It’s also good for birds to nest in. It’s found throughout Hawke’s Bay.
