A plant that doesn’t resemble a plant: it looks like a mass of old wire. This is incredibly rare in Hawke’s Bay, living at the high tide mark in Te Awanga’s gravel beach. When left to grow and isn’t run over with vehicles, it creates a big bed of grey stems. Its white berries are really succulent and full of moisture, great for invertebrates in a dry and hostile beach landscape.
